Result: Loughgall 0 Banbridge Town 0
12 February 2005

Banbridge Town earned themselves a replay after drawing 0-0 with Premier League side Loughgall at Lakeview Park on Saturday in the 6th Round of the Nationwide Irish Cup but it could have been so much better for the locals if David Irwin had converted a first half penalty.

Town went into the game hoping to cause another cup shock after disposing of Cliftonville in Round 5 and it looked good for Michael Lamont's men early on as they put the Loughgall defence under some early pressure with the help of the prevailing wind at Lakeview Park.

And it wasn't long before the Loughgall keeper was called into action. A Town player was felled in the area and the referee had no hesitations in awarding a penalty much to the delight of the travelling Town support.

So up stepped Town's leading marksman this season; David Irwin, but his effort was saved well by the Loughgall keeper. The rebound fell straight to Irwins feet but he had to watch in agony as the Loughgall keeper once again pulled off a magnificant save from point blank range.

The penalty miss didn't deter the Town and they kept on top of Loughgall pushing forward in search of an elusive opening goal. But the Loughgall keeper was doing well to keep Town at bay. Indeed, he made the save of the match diving low to palm away a Dessie Gorman effort destined for the bottom corner midway through the first half.

Dessie Gorman again thought he had given Town the lead but his well struck shot from all of 30 yards rattled the crossbar.

Loughgall did have their moments, their main threat though was coming from counter attacks and they forced Town keeper Havern into action to claw away an effort just outside the area.

In the second half and with the wind behind them Loughgall put Town under more pressure with Alain Emerson and Stevie Coulter missing chances and Ally Wilson's effort hitting the bar.

In the end though the game didn't produce a goal and both sides must do it all over again on Tuesday night. The game will be staged once again at Lakeview Park, kicking off at 7.45pm.

The winners on Tuesday night will find themselves with home advantage against Larne in the Quarter Finals of the Nationwide Irish Cup which is be held on Saturday 5th March.
